Mariya is the Principal Investigator and founder of the lab. She has a passion for studying viral and bacterial pathogenesis. Outside of the lab, Mariya is an avid baker and has a menagerie of pets - two cats (Logan and Nebula) and a Bernadoodle (Storm).​​

Veerle is a graduate student in the Goncheva lab working on the host component of co-infection between influenza A virus and Staphylococcus aureus. She previously completed two directed studies terms in the Goncheva lab. After their days in the lab, she either spends her time with her cats (Pigeon and Chicken), creating art/knitting things/starting a new craft, or out exploring nature!

Megan is a graduate student in the Goncheva lab working on a project focused on how the changes in phosphatidylinositol levels alter flu infectivity. She loves to highland dance or craft, but most importantly, she is always ready to attend a farmers market!

Karen is a research assistant who previously completed her Honours project in the Goncheva lab. When not studying or in the lab, she enjoys skiing, rock climbing, playing classical piano, and spending time with her dog, Honey.

Zoe is a third-year microbiology student at UVic currently doing a co-op in the Goncheva lab this summer. Outside of the lab, she enjoys watercolour painting, playing the piano, camping, and hanging out with her neighbour’s cat, Birdie.

Lily is a fourth-year microbiology student who has come back to the lab this year to complete her Honours. Outside of the lab she can be found swimming, or adventuring somewhere on the island.
